Getting Real with Meal Prep
Meal Prep….The term strikes fear into the hearts of many who begin on the path to healthy eating. Whether you are trying to shrink that gut, trying to put on lean muscle or simply trying to get healthier, getting your nutrition on track is paramount. Pair that with ever increasing busy lifestyles and the need to pre-prepare your meals for a couple days or even a week at a time has become more important than ever if you are going to reach your goals. Meal prep is just that, preparing some or all of your food ahead of time to achieve two things: 1) Reduce the amount of time you spend cooking and preparing food throughout your week and 2) be able to pre-portion/measure and plan each meal to ensure you reach your fitness goal.
Chances are you’ve seen examples of meal prep on Instagram or other social media…you know, those meals that look bright and colorful, full of rich hues and arranged to look like a work of art created by a culinary master! Do your lack of cooking skills send you running for the hills or make you believe that you cant meal prep because you could never make food look or taste as good as those examples seem to be? Let me put your mind at ease…real, every day and SUSTAINABLE meal prepping almost never looks that way, let’s face it, its social media after all. And whats more, each individual’s tastes/ preferences, available time, fitness goals and budget will affect how you meal prep and what the product looks/tastes like.
With that in mind, I wanted to create a series of articles/posts to teach you all the tricks of the trade, make the process as easy as possible no matter your skill level in the kitchen and make your meal prep as versatile/efficient as I can. So if you are just beginning to meal prep or are a veteran just looking for new ideas and tips, you will definitely want to follow this series.
